Iran Exhibits Fattah Hypersonic Ballistic Missile With Mach 15 Speed
Realizing that hypersonic missiles can create a deterrent effect on opponents.
Iran recently followed Russia's lead, introducing the Fatttah hypersonic missile at a ceremony announced by General Amir-Ali Hajizadeh, Commander of the Iranian Air and Space Forces.
Known as Fattah, Iranian state media has published photos from the weapons launch ceremony.
Iranian President Ebrahim Rahisi attended the event, along with the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
Iran's defense authority says the Fattah is its first hypersonic ballistic missile. Fattah has a maximum launch range of 1,400 km and is claimed to be able to penetrate all enemy air defense shields.
In short, the existence of Fattah is a big leap in the development of missiles in the Land of the Mullahs.
Fattah deserves to be called hypersonic, because it has a maximum speed of Mach 15 (about 17,160.62 km per hour), while the speed in the terminal phase is Mach 13.
Separately, Iran said Fattah can penetrate US missile defense systems along with Israel's Iron Dome surface-to-air missile system. The missile can also maneuver in and out of the atmosphere.
Given its range, defense analysts concluded they were referring to missile defense systems the US has already deployed in the Middle East.
The Fattah is a precision-guided, two-stage solid-fuel missile. The warhead has a spherical engine using solid fuel with a movable nozzle which allows the warhead to increase in strength and self-speed and move in any direction.
So far, there has been no news when Fattah will be trialled for its launch. If the claim that Fattach's speed reaches Mach 15 is true, then Iran has succeeded in surpassing the speed performance of hypersonic missiles previously launched by North Korea and China.
The name Fattah means 'winner' in Arabic.
